Equifax Data Breach
Kessler Topaz Meltzer & Check, LLP (“Kessler Topaz”) is investigating a potential class action lawsuit against Equifax, Inc. (”Equifax”), one of the nation’s three major credit reporting firms, on behalf of consumers who may have had their personal information stolen as a result of a data breach announced by Equifax.
Kessler Topaz’s Investigation
On September 7, 2017, Equifax announced that its computer systems were breached, which led to an unauthorized access of Social Security numbers, names, birthdates, and driver’s license numbers, among other things. Specifically, Equifax stated that it discovered a data breach in which “[c]riminals exploited a U.S. website application vulnerability to gain access to certain files.” The data breach potentially affects more than 143 million consumers in the United States.
Equifax also reported that 209,000 U.S. credit card numbers were accessed, as well as “certain dispute documents with personal identifying information for approximately 182,000 U.S. consumers.”
