Chemours Company GenX Investigation
Chemours Company (“Chemours”), which operates a plant in Fayetteville, NC, produces a hazardous chemical compound called GenX, which is an unregulated chemical that has been used in Teflon manufacturing since 2009.
Chemours is currently being investigated by the EPA after reports surfaced linking the company to the discharge of GenX into the Cape Fear River. Detlef Knappe, a professor at N.C. State University and one of the researchers who traced the toxin from Fayetteville to Wilmington, stated, “about 250,000 people are affected in the three counties [Brunswick, New Hanover or Pender].”
