Hyundai Palisade Fire Investigation

Kessler Topaz is investigating a potential defect in certain Hyundai Motor America ("Hyundai") vehicles which were equipped with a tow hitch as these vehicles may catch on fire.

On August 24, 2022, a recall was announced by Hyundai regarding the 2020-2022 Hyundai Palisade vehicles.  Hyundai is warning owners to "park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete." The Palisades are equipped with tow hitch harnesses either as original equipment or purchased as accessories at Hyundai dealers.  Hyundai states in the announcement that "[d]ebris and moisture accumulation on the tow hitch harness module printed circuit board (PCB) may cause an electrical short, which can result in a fire." According to Hyundai, the Palisade could catch on fire even with the vehicle shut off.

To date, Hyundai is aware of three Palisade fires and eight melting incidents in Canada and eight melting events in the U.S.
