Specifically, our investigation concerns potential defects in certain Ford EcoBoost engines, which may allow coolant to leak into the engine cylinders. The defect may initially cause repeated low coolant levels or the presence of white exhaust smoke, and the malfunction indicator lamp or check engine light may illuminate. The defect can also eventually lead to significant engine damage or failure, which might require engine replacement.
