Equifax Inc. (“Equifax”) was the target of a recent cyber-attack and as a result, individuals may have had their tax and salary information stolen.
Kessler Topaz Meltzer & Check, LLP is investigating potential claims on behalf of individuals who may have been subject to the recent attack. Specifically, Kessler Topaz Meltzer & Check, LLP is investigating whether Equifax was negligent, and whether that negligence led to the data breach that compromised the personal information of individuals.
Equifax Inc. is one of the big three consumer credit reporting agencies in the United States. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, Equifax is the oldest of the three agencies.
Equifax also provides services for companies and their employees. Equifax’s W-2Express website allows W-2 forms to be downloaded by employees of customers of Equifax.
Alleged Wrongful Conduct
In May 2016, Kroger, the nation’s largest grocery chain, sent a letter to its current and former employees stating that Equifax, which provides online access to electronic W-2 forms for Kroger and other companies, was a target of a security incident. The letter further indicated that personal information, such as Social Security numbers and dates of birth, may have been compromised.
